The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 186,855 illegal immigrants this year along a porous stretch of the border along the Rio Grande between Mexico and the USA, according to a report in the Washington Post.
Approximately 97% of illegal immigrants who enter the USA do so across the nearly 2,000-mile-long border with Mexico.
There are approximately 17,500 U.S. Border Patrol agents in that area, and recently one of them, Raquel Medina, offered some very interesting commentary on the law enforcement efforts along the border.
Medina called her job “terrifying, heart-rending, defeating all at the same time” and added that “a lot of people don’t know what goes on at the border. They’re clueless. I was clueless.”
Medina also observed, “I think a lot of people, they think we can catch everybody.”
Medina discussed the great danger along the border, even as she admitted that she has never drawn her gun nor fired it. Still, she remains wary at all times.
“I mean, every night you go out there you’re scared,” Medina admitted. “Now I understand that not everyone comes across [the border] to work here. There are definitely some bad people.”
As evidence of the bad element which frequently attempt to cross the border illegally, Medina recalled how some illegal immigrants were armed with knives and carried rucksacks filled with marijuana.
Medina’s compelling testimony is underscored by reports that illegal immigrants may make up as much as 30% of the prison population in the USA, and that it costs approximately $1.6 billion a year to pay for the imprisonment of illegal immigrants in the USA.
Legal Immigrants For America (LIFA) applauds the brave and heroic work of Raquel Medina and the approximately 17,500 other U.S. Border Patrol agents who are doing their best to keep this nation safe, even as they are being shackled by the bonds of political correctness and false compassion.
Raquel Medina’s compelling commentary is just further proof of what LIFA has been saying since the very beginning:
A nation without borders is not a nation.
