HALF OF ALL FEDERAL ARRESTS ARE FOR IMMIGRATION-RELATED CRIMES

A Pew Research Center analysis of data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows that 50% of the 165,265 total arrests made by the federal government in 2014 were for immigration-related crimes.

In 2004, that figure was just 28%.

The expanding rate of immigration-related arrests highlights the ever-growing burden of policing immigration crime, which has grown exponentially over the last decade.

Data also showed that in 2014 61% of all federal arrests were of non-U.S. citizens, up from 43% in 2004.
