Kansas is asking a federal appeals court to keep thousands of people who haven't yet provided the documents to prove they are U.S. citizens from voting in November's election. Judges from the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver are set to hear arguments Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, in the legal fight over how the state enforces its proof-of-citizenship requirement for voters who register at motor vehicle offices. Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has emerged as Donald Trump’s “immigration czar.”

Kobach, who has already helped write tough immigration laws in Arizona and Kansas, has been advising President Trump on immigration policy, and Kobach has stated that Trump could push ahead rapidly on construction of a wall on the border between Mexico and the USA, without seeking immediate congressional approval.

Kobach also has stated that Trump’s policy advisers have discussed drafting a proposal to reinstate a registry for immigrants from Muslim countries.

Kobach further noted that Trump’s transition team has considered ways of overturning President Obama’s 2012 executive action that granted deportation relief and work permits to 700,000 “dreamers” who came to the USA as children of illegal immigrants.

Kobach is viewed as a key member of Trump’s transition team, especially on the issue of immigration.
